Air-strafing, explained without the jargon
Why turning your view makes you faster.
Small studio · Big momentum
Preck.Dev is a small game studio. We're building Movement Arcade: a free game about surfing ramps, air-strafing and chasing the perfect line.
Move your mouse (or drag a finger) to build speed
Air-strafing, Surf ramps, Momentum, Source-style movement, 66 ticks per second, Community maps, Mapper credit, Free to play
01 · What it is
Movement Arcade is built around one idea: moving well should be the whole game. You slide down angled ramps, curve your view in the air and the speed you gain is yours to keep.
It's a free multiplayer arcade where the movement feels like classic Source-engine surf, and later grows into more modes built on the same movement. It's in development, so nothing is final yet.
02 · What's inside
What we're building, and how far along each part is. Planned items are plans, not promises.
Custom movement code tuned to the feel of Source-engine surf: air-strafing, momentum and ramps that don't snag on their seams.
Angled ramps, stages and timed runs. Surf is where we start and what everything else is built on.
Maps come from the community and keep their mapper's name on them, always.
The server replays each run from your inputs, so a time means the same at any ping. Replays for finished runs.
Bhop, deathrun and arcade mini-games, all riding on the same movement.
03 · Hands on
A tiny, simplified model of how air-strafing works. Hold a strafe key and turn your view the same way, and your speed climbs. It isn't the game, just a taste of the idea.
Try it: click the box, hold D and sweep your mouse to the right (or tap the arrow keys). Keep your view turning the way you push and the gold arrow gets longer. Push without turning and nothing happens. Autopilot shows what a perfect run looks like.
The price
Movement Arcade doesn't cost anything to play. The plan is that anything we might ever sell is cosmetic only, never speed and never an advantage.
04 · Community maps
Surf has a huge community of mapmakers, and their work is why the genre is still alive. Movement Arcade ships community-made maps and every map carries its mapper's name.
If you made a map and would like it taken down, tell us and it comes down. No fuss.
